Member of the Month: January 2024

Gabe is PUSH511's January Member of the Month!

Gabe has been a part of the PUSH community for over six years now! Outside of group CrossFit classes, Gabe has been involved with nutrition challenges, customized nutrition coaching, and internal competitions at PUSH. He's even competed outside of the gym at local comps such as Vekter Games! He always gives his best effort in every workout and is supportive of everyone in the PUSH community which is why he's our first Member of the Month of 2024:

Gabe is the definition of commitment at PUSH. He has been such a consistent force who has taken the last few years to really focus on his health, skills, and overall fitness. He is so supportive of everyone he is around and his accent makes life more fun.

Gabe brings the energy to the evening classes. He goes out of his way to be friendly to new members and veterans alike and holds himself to high movement standards. He puts in the work continuously and it definitely shows!

Gabe is the definition of silently putting in the work and making it look like it came overnight. He has been working on all aspects of his fitness from cleaning up his Nutrition to working on his Gymnastics and flexibility in the Beast Cave before coming to classes. A joy to have in classes and an awesome hype man for those looking for a little encouragement on those final minutes of a workout.

It’s easy to say why Gabe is one of my favorite people to coach from a performance perspective: he listens, practices, follows the stimulus of every workout, and consistently shows up to be a better athlete. But more importantly, he is one of the friendliest people you’ll meet at PUSH, going out of his way to introduce himself to new Foundations athletes, always cheering on his fellow athletes during workouts, and making everyone in class feel like they’re a friend. I can always count on him for a bomb playlist recommendation, too. He is a role model athlete at PUSH and a WELL-deserved athlete of the month!

Now let's get to know our January Member of the Month!

When did you start CrossFit? Started about 7 years ago after I watched the "Redeemed and the Dominant" CrossFit doc about the 2016 Games. (Ben Smith is the goat). Obviously, I wanted to look like the Games athletes, so I gave it a go! Never looked back! Still working on my six-pack though...

What's your fitness background? Cricket and Rugby were my two primary sports growing up. Cricket was my favorite sport as a youngster, but once I graduated high school my entire focus turned to rugby. The physicality and intensity required for the sport suited me, and will forever be my favorite pastime. I have had a few accomplishments during my rugby career, but my proudest was captaining Penn State my senior year. Rugby is not a bad background to have heading into CrossFit. I came into CrossFit already having done a lot of weightlifting and A LOT of running as part of my rugby strength and conditioning.

What's your favorite CrossFit movement? Best movement is deadlift, favorite movement is squat snatch.

What's your least favorite movement? Chest 2 Bar and Toes 2 Bar are tied for my least favorite.... wall walks are close.

What do you do for work? I sell external cybersecurity software.

In England, I am considered to be American. So I'm always trying to explain my nationality no matter where I go. My brother now lives in Philly, and my sister is back home in London. I am big into my sports, for anybody who wants to talk Philadelphia Eagles, England rugby or cricket, I am your man! Also, I have started getting into cult documentaries, just finished Escaping Twin Flames, so open to any recommendations if anybody knows a good one.

Tell us something we don't know about you! I am a big gamer! I play Xbox with my friends weekly. If anybody is looking to squad up in Call of Duty, my GamerTag is TupperWare72. P.S. Just because I play a lot, does not mean I am good!!

How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym? Personally, I believe the discipline and dedication required to be good at the sport are transferable to any challenge in life. Those traits are going to get you farther than any amount of talent or luck. Plus the way Crossfit makes my body look and feel has given me self-confidence that I have not found doing anything else.

What do you enjoy most about PUSH? The coaching and community make showing up to the gym easy. Everyone is so supportive and friendly. Choose your goal, work towards it, and the whole community will get behind you!

What tips would you offer to someone just getting started with working out? Consistency is the most important thing! Continue to show up, and don't get too fixated on the results from any specific day. Learn to enjoy the process, and the results will come over time. PLUS what you do outside of the gym is as important as what you do inside of it. Formula for success: eat enough, sleep enough, work out consistently, and you will see results.
