CrossFit Member of the Month: June 2024

Tommy is PUSH511's June CrossFit Member of the Month!

Tommy has been a member at PUSH for less than a year but has already become a steady member of the early morning group CrossFit class crew. He has made tremendous strides in his short time at PUSH and our team is excited to see where his hard work takes him next, which is why they nominated him Member of the Month! This is what Tommy's coaches had to say about him:

Tommy is so wonderful to have in class and he really has blossomed as a member! He has the best mobility I have seen in a long time and it’s helped him pick up movements with ease and in a safe way. He is always eager to learn how he can do things better and values feedback. He works so hard and has challenged himself in so many ways, I’m excited to see him progress further!

Tommy has been an amazing addition to the 4:50 crew. Tommy has been so responsive to feedback and has truly become a core member of our squad. He is always positive, always tries his hardest, and we are always so happy to see him. We are so proud of all of the progress he has made since starting and I am excited to see what new skills he learns in the coming months!

Yeyy Tommy! He quietly sneaks in all the good vibes at 4:50 am. Tommy has already improved SO much and continues to go after it every time, so proud if him. It is a joy to work out with him between the early risers. Plus flexibility is one of his superpowers!

Now, let's get to know our June Member of the Month!

When did you start CrossFit? January 2024

What's your fitness background? I played football and rugby (both poorly) in high school and played a few more years of rugby in college. Before joining Push, I hadn’t stepped in a gym since 2017.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement? Bench press is the only thing I don’t dislike doing. But power cleans are growing on me.

What’s your least favorite movement? It was wall balls until the first time I did dumbbell front squats.

What do you do for work? I was a commercial brewer, hop farmer, and distiller before moving to Baltimore. Since moving here, I’ve been doing general handyman work for what has now almost been alarmingly a year.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family. I was born and raised in DC. I went to college in the Midwest and lived in Chicago for a year before coming back home. I moved to Baltimore from DC last July with fiancée. It’s just the two of us, but she really wants to get a dog.

Tell us something we don’t know about you! I’m allergic to dogs.

How has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym? Well, my clothes are starting to fit better so that’s been nice.

What do you enjoy most about PUSH? The people and the coaches.

What tips would you offer someone who is just getting started with working out? Starting was the hardest part for me. Coming more consistently has made it a lot easier and more enjoyable though. Showing up is huge.

What's your favorite song to work out to? La Bamba

What's your favorite restaurant? Arby’s

Who's your hero (real or fictional)? Charles Barkley

Words to live by or favorite quote? Aim for the bushes - The Other Guys

What's your favorite travel spot? Unfortunately, FedEx Field

If you could win an Olympic gold medal for any sport, real or fake, what would it be? Spike Ball

What's your hidden talent? I’m alarmingly flexible for my size.

  1. The Other Guys
  2. The Naked Gun
  3. Wrongfully Accused
  4. Nacho Libre
