Nutrition Spotlight: Sonia

Imagine making a few simple yet consistent changes in your lifestyle and having it result in more energy than you've had in years. This is what happened to our May Nutrition Spotlight, Sonia!

Sonia has done it all with PUSH511 in her relatively short time with us! She currently does nutrition coaching, in addition to group CrossFit classes, and she's also worked with our personal trainers. She works with PUSH511 Nutrition Coach, Rachel, who had this to say about Sonia: When Sonia and I first started working together she was looking to gain more energy in order to stay active and be able to continue with her travels and love of hiking. From the very beginning. Sonia has been responsive to suggestions and quick to take action, especially with her water and protein intake. In the 3 months we have been working together Sonia has gained 2 lbs. of muscle and lost 1% body fat. I am so proud of Sonia and can't wait to see what else she achieves!

This is what Sonia's journey at PUSH511 so far has looked like:

"Hello! My name is Sonia, and I am an infectious disease epidemiologist for the State of Maryland as well as a microbiologist for a local hospital. I am an avid traveler, love to hike, read, and have perfected the 20-min nap.

"As I continue on in my early 30s, I knew I had to make changes in my diet as the things I was doing in my 20s no longer worked. I need to figure out what changes I needed to make to start living a better version of myself. When I moved to Baltimore last summer, I knew I wasn’t my best self, but it took me almost 6 months to transition into living in a new city and new job to find a gym that will get me physically in shape for some hiking goals I have. After my initial meeting with Ardyth, I knew it couldn’t hurt to work on my nutrition as well."

Sonia has only been at PUSH for a little over three months, but in that time she's accomplished so much:

"After 3 months, I have more energy than I have in years. I am slowly figuring out what meals I can eat that have all the proper portions of what I need to get enough protein on a daily basis. Having someone checking in regularly and a new community with similar mindsets is what I have been missing to achieve those goals."

Sometimes, you know what you need to work on with your nutrition and just need accountability to stay on track. And sometimes, you're not aware of the areas in which you can improve! Working with a nutrition coach can benefit you in both scenarios.

"I knew I didn’t drink enough water or eat enough protein lately. Also, the vegetarian protein sources were mostly carb based which was an idea that I did not realize before.

Sonia drinking water

"[Since working with a nutrition coach] I have almost doubled the amount of water I drink each day. As a vegetarian, it has been a challenge trying to get enough protein using whole foods rather than relying on supplements. I have doubled the amount of protein in the last 3 months by being more mindful about my meals each week.

"One healthy habit that I have picked up is buying a water bottle with a straw has changed how much water I have been drinking each day. It is mind-blowing."

We love watching PUSH511 nutrition clients make such incredible progress! If you're wondering how you might benefit from working with a nutrition coach, this is your sign to get started and find out!

"I would like to thank Rachel for nominating me. I didn’t expect it, especially after working with her for only a short time. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next 3 months."
