Member of the Month - January 2022

Congratulations, Kim!

Kim is our January Member of the Month and our first MoM of the New Year! Kim is a regular at PUSH's morning CrossFit classes. Our coaches nominated Kim for a variety of reasons, including:

I can always count on Kim to be in class with me at 6:00 am! She's the definition of consistent. Kim is quiet, but she is always putting in the work in class and outside of class!

Kim is the quintessential PUSH member - she is always working hard, has a great sense of humor, focused on her growth, and always willing to just try! She RX'd the Open last year and surprised herself with what she could accomplish. My favorite part about Kim is that even if she doesn't think she can do something, she just needs a reminder that she in fact can (this is usually accomplished with just a look and question about her choices...) and then she just crushes the WOD doing what she didn't think she could. She has so much potential and she will just continue to get better. She is such a solid part of the morning classes and I don't know anyone that isn't excited to see her come in the gym in the morning!

She ALWAYS shows up. Listens to the coach and brings good energy. One of our most reliable athletes.

Always on time, always ready, always prepared for any workout. Kim’s a joy to have in class. She brings good vibes and energy to each workout. One of our most consistent morning members.

For over 3 years Kim is consistently dedicated to getting her workout in and it shows with her development and hitting new PRs. She is even consistent on where she works out in the gym, though COVID has moved her to the big room. She may not always believe how strong she is but with a gentle push from her coaches to get her out of her comfort zone she flourishes. Kim brings fun to the morning classes, except when she does the math on the number of reps in a workout…..

I love having Kim in my classes as both a coach and fellow athlete. It's been great to have her with me to compare notes of what we're about to dread before we start the workout, talk about the latest movies we've seen, and getting her take on my newest dance numbers. I'm appreciative as a coach that she'll listen to cues, go for the glory when encouraged, and that she shows up day in and day out. You've done so well Kim, we're all very proud of you!

Now, let's get to know our first Member of the Month for 2022!

When did you start CrossFit? August 2018

What's your fitness background? I played some tennis and soccer in high school and primarily lifted weights after that.

What's your favorite CrossFit movement? Power cleans!

What's your least favorite movement? Burpees!

What do you do for work? I'm a behavior analyst. I own a company that provides in-home behavior therapy to children with autism.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family. I was born and raised in Miami, FL. I am a proud daughter of two immigrant parents. My mother is Cuban and my father is Costa Rican. People are always shocked when I say I don't ever want to move back to Miami. Moving up north was definitely a culture shock for me but I just love the seasons up here!

Tell us something we don’t know about you! I don't like coffee at all, even the smell.

How has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym? It really has centered me. My work life is pretty stressful and people are constantly looking at me for decisions so it's nice to come into the gym every morning and just humble myself to the WOD.

What do you enjoy most about PUSH? 6am class! It's always a good time!

What tips would you offer someone who is just getting started with working out? Just keep showing up. Find a time that consistently works for you, and continue to show up.
