Dave Charles is PUSH511's October CrossFit Member of the Month!
When the PUSH511 coaching team nominates community members for Member of the Month, they look for members who consistently work hard in the gym, inspire and cheer on fellow PUSH members, and embody a positive attitude toward fitness. We felt that Dave, who has been a steady presence in PUSH's afternoon classes for nearly three years, was long overdue for a Member of the Month spotlight!
When did you start CrossFit? February of 2024.
What's your fitness background? I mostly did weight training only before staring CrossFit. I also did some running, including sprint triathlons and one half marathon.
What’s your favorite CrossFit movement? Squats.
What’s your least favorite movement? Burpees. If you like burpees, I am immediately suspicious of you.
What do you do for work? I’m an IT Systems Analyst for a government agency.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family. I am from central Indiana, and my wife, Nathalie, is from Michigan. Our cats, Scarley and Maverick, are slowly warming to each other into their second decade of life.
Tell us something we don't know about you! I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild. I have been in several independent films and have shown up in the background of a few TV shows and films.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym? By getting me out of my comfort zone in terms of fitness, CrossFit has pushed me to get out of my comfort zone in other aspects of my life.
What do you enjoy most about PUSH? There's really something special about pushing yourself physically with other people. Being around other people and being inspired by them pushes me much harder than I can push myself on my own.
What tips would you offer someone who is just getting started with working out? Don't be discouraged by what score you might put up on a workout. Did you push yourself? If the answer is "yes", you had a good workout.
What's your favorite song to work out to? Acceptable in the 80's - Calvin Harris
What's your favorite restaurant? Anything locally owned... and Taco Bell

What's your favorite travel spot? Anywhere I've never been before.
If you could win an Olympic gold medal for any sport, real or fake, what would it be? Shopping Cart Golf (like from the 90's PGA commercial). I've been practicing for years.
What's your hidden talent? Swinging a sledgehammer. I worked for a tent rental company and drove stakes every summer during college.
