CONGRATULATIONS DEBEBE!
A few words from D’s friends & coaches:
Debebe is a great addition to all the 6am rock stars! He’s so positive and focused. And he always remembers to chalk up! Haha!! He has improved so much, and with as hard as he works, he’s crushing it! I love working out with him. He’s always got a positive word or an end-of-WOD fist bump. He just has to stop hanging around Sam so much.
The man brings nothing but encouragement and a smile at 6am!
Debebe also puts in extra time on Sundays… on hard and un-enjoyable weakness movements. Amazing personality and attitude! D has been putting in the work and continues to ask during a WOD if his form looks good. He is determined, driven and always there to support his fellow workout partners. Last year he pursued multiple Goruck challenges, the man has Grit!
Debebe is a “one of a kind” type of guy, and he is truly admirable not only for his intellect but also for his amazing spirit. Since joining PUSH, he has been consistently reaching for his fitness goals and continues to improve every single day. I remember when I first met Debebe, he struggled with even doing a full squat, and now you can see him in workouts doing muscle ups. The strides he has made and the skills that he has mastered have been truly impressive, and I am so proud to see how much he has improved over the past year! Debebe is such a positive force at every 6am class, and he truly lives up to the name of the box: He is always pushing himself and inspiring others to achieve greatness during each WOD and can always be seen offering words of encouragement to others. Debebe shows up to every workout with a smile on his face, and his personality brings such a great spirit and sense of positivity to PUSH. His positive attitude is so contagious, and he is part of the reason I am so glad to be a part of the AMAZING 6am morning crew. Debebe is so deserving of being this month’s member of the month, and I am truly grateful to call him my friend. Congratulations Debebe!!!
De’s infectious smile and can-do-attitude is so welcoming at 6am. He’s come a very long way from when he first started, adding some serious strength and giving everyone a run for their money. Still to this day he takes on coach’s cues really well, asks for guidance and opinions, and knows when to push it or scale back appropriately. As a coach, he’s been fantastic, and as a 6am'er to compete with, he’s been great support. Good game De, good game.
D is quite the athlete! If he isn’t dominating 6 am with his fast push-ups and burpees, he’s being convinced to do extra work after the WOD or on the weekend and doesn’t complain. He has such an upbeat personality and always has a supportive word and a high five ready for his fellow athletes!
Debebe is probably one of the happiest people I know. No matter how challenging the WOD he always gives 110% - with a HUGE smile on his face. He embodies everything I love about PUSH - challenging yourself and others to be their best, incorporating fun into your life, and maintaining a positive attitude and smile no matter how difficult things get.
Debebe is a very good athlete, a great teammate, and an even better person. In training with Debebe, he has shown a relentless pursuit to improve upon his weaknesses by working hard and constantly seeking advice from coaches and other PUSH members. All the while though, he never takes himself too seriously and always has encouraging words for his fellow athletes. People like Debebe are what make the PUSH511 community special. He is a very well deserving Member of the Month. Congratulations!
Now for some words from the Man himself…….
Started CrossFit: I started CrossFit maybe a year (or two?) ago when Ross invited me. I tried to keep up but school was getting in the way so I fell off but have been coming in consistently since January 2016.
What is your fitness background: I did a year of track and basketball in middle school, and spent around 3 years boxing in college and still do every once in a while.
Favorite Movement: Toss-up between cleans, deadlifts and burpees.
Least Favorite Movement: Can’t pick between wall balls and OHS/Squat snatch…Sorry Brad…
Occupation: MD/PhD student at Hopkins.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family: My parents emigrated to the US in the 80s and I was born in Los Angeles, California. We’ve moved a bit (–>Orlando, FL–>Aurora, CO–>Orlando, FL) and now I’m here in the greatest city in America for school. I’ve got a younger brother who lives in NYC and who also does CrossFit and my goal is to one day have him drop-in at PUSH so we can WOD together. My family and friends mean the world to me and I really love putting a smile on people’s faces.
Tell us something we don’t know about you: I don’t have much in the way of a sweat tooth.
Words to live by or Favorite Quote: Not big into trying to sum up my entire life’s focus into one quote but one I really like is - “Let me not then die ingloriously and without a struggle, but let me first do some great thing that shall be told among men, hereafter.”
How has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym: Not sure I have a life outside of CrossFit!
What do you enjoy most about PUSH: Hands down the community. The 6 AM class rocks!!! No better way to start the day than with the antics that go down early in the morning…
Fill in the Blank:
