CONGRATULATIONS ALI (AND GUS)!
Ali is just an awesome person, plain and simple. Can’t think of someone more deserving for this recognition than her. She comes in everyday ready to go and give her all in every workout. It is such a blast to workout with her because she is game for any workout and so supportive of others during their workouts to help push them harder.
She’s also constantly seeking out advice on what she can do better on any movements or improve her workouts. Always a blast to be around outside of workouts and super nice to everyone who walks into the gym. Ali is the kind of person every gym wishes they could have and I’m glad she’s a part of the PUSH family. Even better, she brings a good boy like Gus to the gym all the time!
Ali is a friendly, fabulous person; a great athlete; and an incredibly fun and supportive workout partner! She also has a tenacity to be reckoned with - she recognizes and is willing to work on her weaknesses, which enables her to learn/master new skills faster than most. She’s also willing to give herself that extra push in a WOD, always willing to take on whatever challenge is thrown at her. Gus is pretty cool too, but not as cool as Ali. I can’t imagine 4:30 without her!
Ali is a very hard worker always trying to improve her skills! Always happy except went she rips her hands witch seems to be every 2 to 3 weeks lol ( hand protection). She has come a long way practicing CTB & Bar MU always pushing herself to be better! I always enjoy WOD’ing with her makes me push just that much harder trying to keep up with her!
Congrats Ali well deserved!!
Ali is an absolute thrill to be around when she is at PUSH!!! She always works extremely hard and her energy is contagious. She seemingly hits a new PR on a lift or learns a new gymnastics skill every week, as she continues her exponential growth as an athlete. Outside of her tremendous performance, she always cheers people on, and is clearly excited to see others excel as well. Last of all, any time Ali is in the gym that usually means that the members of PUSH are also treated to some quality time with her best friend Gus. The sky is the limit for Ali!!!
Ali is one tough cookie. It is usually hard for me to drag my friends to do a crazy Grit (511Endurance) workout, but I can always count on her to suffer alongside me lol. On top of being such a sweet person, Ali definitely has grit – she is always giving it 110% and spends countless hours at the gym working on a skill or taking on new challenges. I am really proud of how much Ali has improved over these past couple of months and am particularly impressed at her tenacity at this year’s CrossFit Open. She has been kicking some butt! I am so excited to see what goals Ali will achieve in this coming year. Keep grinding deep Ali, you are so deserving of this month’s Member of the Month!
Ali has one of the best smiles in the gym, and behind the smile is a force to be reckoned with! She is dedicated to improving key skills plus always jumping in to help others and cheer. I would be remiss if do not give a shout out to Gus as well, he gets the April Dog of the Month!
Insight from Ali.
Started CrossFit: 2015 while living in North Carolina
What is your fitness background? Played lacrosse through high school. Following high school, I would primarily run with light strengthening at a local gym.
Favorite Movement(s): Overhead Squat and Clean & Jerk
Least Favorite Movement: Deadlift. Absolutely despise!
Occupation: Occupational Therapist at Hopkins
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family: I grew up in Harford County, Maryland. Went to East Carolina for undergrad and had been living in North Carolina since up until the last year. My parents and older sister live in Bel Air. I am super happy to be back close to my family where it doesn’t take a full day’s drive to visit them when I want/need.
Tell us something we don’t know about you: I have the memory of a tick and literally lose things on a regular basis. I chew an absurd amount of gum and have to limit/am trying to decrease PACKS per day.
Words to live by or Favorite Quote: “If we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane.”
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym: CrossFit and all the positive support received within PUSH has helped improved my overall confidence and demeanor. I also feel much more confident in my ability to transfer/manage heavy patients at work.
What do you enjoy most about PUSH: I remember meeting Corrinne my first or second day at PUSH and how comfortable she made me feel. Since then, I have felt nothing but welcomed and supported by the people at PUSH. I seriously look forward to seeing my afternoon crew/family every day!
Fill in the blank:
I like…. to laugh. Listening to music. Long workouts. The beach/being in the sun. My D.O.G. aka Gus
I eat…the same thing every day during the week with exception of varying the meat/protein at dinner. My casein shake before bed is my favorite time of the day!
I do…doubt myself often. Enjoy talking in a British (maybe somewhat Australian?) accent. Get stressed fairly easily, especially when something throws off my routine. Get super pumped watching my friend’s workout.
I am…. Not shy, whatsoever (clearly, my dog is not either). My own worst self-critic.
Favorite Cheat Meal: Brussel sprouts from any bar/restaurant
Favorite Real-Life Hero/Athlete: I don’t really follow athletes. I would have to say my current real-life athlete/hero is Dennis Boyd! His positive attitude and determination is seriously impressive. (Side note on Ali’s Hero, Dennis was PUSH’s first Member of the Month and has qualified for the CrossFit Regionals in 2017 & 2018 in the Masters 55-59 Division)
